Calgary Aviation College Announced

Historic Flight Trainer Expands to Meet Industry Needs for Commercial Pilots

CALGARY, ALBERTA, August 24, 2018 – In September of 2018, the advanced training activities of the Calgary Flying Club(CFC) will become the Calgary Aviation College and Sim Center (CAVC) marking a further milestone in the development of more industry-ready aviators needed to meet the pilot shortage in Canada.

“We are so pleased to bring our 92 year history of safely training pilots to a dedicated division focused on developing career pilots valued by the best air operators in the country” says CFC Chairman, Ken Yewell. He adds, “the Calgary Flying Club has always been at the center of general aviation in Southern Alberta and will continue to provide private pilot training, aircraft rentals, facilities and member programs for personal and recreational flyers.

CAVC will offer qualified private pilots a modular program of study and structured flying to arrive at an Air Transport Pilot License. A class of up to 32 prospective career pilots will be admitted each September and January. Early application is recommended for admission into this popular aviation program.

CAVC Chief Flight Instructor, Terry St. George explains “we have really taken up the challenge to train more commercial pilots in ways that accelerate their careers and give the aviation industry qualified graduates that can be highly effective in entry positions and onward to more senior positions. A robust syllabus and a more scenario-based learning experience will shape the next generation of professional pilots, he added.”

In 2019, CAVC plans to offer an Aviation Diploma path for career pilots wishing to supplement their advanced flight training licenses with academic credentials and broadened experiences.

Studies show the worldwide demand for new pilots over the next ten years is in excess of 285,000, so it is a great time to consider a career in aviation.

The Calgary Aviation College is the advanced training division of the Calgary Flying Club, a Transport Canada licensed flight training unit, based at Springbank Airport, Calgary AB. The College has a fleet of 14 single engine aircraft, 2 twin engine aircraft, advanced simulators, proven teaching methods and experienced flight instructors. The Calgary Flying Club is also a Private Career College licensed by the Government of Alberta. A three year Strategic Plan is guiding CFC’s growth and developments in Southern Alberta. Canada’s Historic Flying Club

The Calgary Flying Club is located at the Springbank Airport which is a five minute drive west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Club is nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies and only a short drive from Banff National Park. Becoming a Club Member is easy. An annual membership in the Calgary Flying Club costs only $75 (plus GST).  You don’t have to be a pilot to be a part of the Club. In fact, more than half of our members don’t fly – they just love having fun and want to help the Club promote public interest in aviation. You also don’t have to live in Calgary. The Club has many members who live all over the World.

Members are permitted full access to the Club’s facilities, training resources, and rental aircraft. Members also receive a discount on aviation fuel purchased at the Club. Our clubhouse amenities include fuel and oil sales, a fully licensed restaurant as well as a pilot’s lounge and classroom space.

Activities

Being the social bunch that we are, the Calgary Flying Club has several regular club activities that we encourage everyone to come out and get involved in. Saturday Sorties are our weekly member flying events found on the calendar page, along with many other activities the club has to offer. In 2007 we formed the CFC Running Club, which is open to runners of all ages and abilities.
