Where to Find Us

The Calgary Flying Club is located at the Springbank Airport which is a five minute drive west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada on highway #1. The Club is nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies and only a short drive from Banff National Park. Some of the world's best skiing and wilderness areas can be found at our back door.

We are located midway down taxiway alpha just south of the tower tarmac.

For VFR Arrivals:

Originating from Calgary:
-Contact YBW 118.2 over the Crowfoot Center at 5500ft. unless otherwise instructed

Originating from the South and South East:
-Enter Calgary's control zone and contact Calgary VTA on 119.4
-Advise you would like to enter Springbank's control zone from the south joining at Priddis Corner (VFR Reporting point shown on the Calgary VTA at the intersections of HWY 22 and HXY 22X)
-Contact YBW 118.2 over Priddis Corner or crossing Hwy 22X

Originating for the West and Southwest:
-Contact YBW 118.2 at Bragg Creek or abeam Ghost Lake

Originating Northwest and Practice area:
-Contact YBW 118.2 abeam or over Cochrane Lake

Originating from the Northeast:
-After in Calgary's airspace and in contact with VTA 119.4
-Contact YBW 118.2, 3NM north of Highway 567 unless otherwise instructed by VTA

Springbank tower will advise once in contact what the best way to join the circut will be. Once down advise YBW Ground 121.8 what runway you're off and what taxiway you're on and that you are going to the Flying Club.

For IFR Flights:

-Procedures for entering YBW airspace will be close to VFR procedures but contact and routing instructions will be given by Edmonton Center.

Please note that contact with YBW tower should be made no less than 5 min. prior to entering the control zone so the points suggested above represent the latest contact should be made.

 

 

All pilots are responsible for obtaining the most current information available regarding arrivals at CYBW.

Driving to the Club:

1. Look at the Google maps above.

2. Take the TransCanada Highway.

3. West of Calgary on Hwy 1, exit on the second exit west of Calgary on Springbank Road. Head north on Springbank Road (Range Road 33) and continue to the four way stop beside Springbank United Church. Turn left and continue west until you see the Springbank Airport sign on the right. There will also be Rocky Mountain Aircraft Co. on that corner with a big green hangar. Turn right here onto McLaurin Dr. and continue north. Our parking lot is located directly south of the Control Tower. Address is 155A McLaurin Dr.
