Club Newsletter – Nov 21st 2018

Member Celebration and Grad – One of the great CFC traditions and a true Member celebration is happening on the afternoon of December 1st. As a CFC Member, you and one guest are granted a complimentary ticket by signing up at the link below before November 27th and letting us know you are coming. A separate link has been provided to Grads earning a License, Sustaining Members and CFC Staff. A special invite goes out to all the pilots that earned a Rating, Check-out or participated in pilot development at CFC during the past year. Please print your tickets and bring them with you to the Hangar Museum. Pilots earning a license will receive their “Wings” and a Commercial Pilots will receive a surprize recognition. Special Awards will also be presented. Please join all the Grads, our Members and special guests in this achievement celebration. Pilot Prosecco and hot snacks will be served. Grad Class picture will follow the ceremonies. Come early (13:00) and walk this unique museum prior to ceremonies (14:30). We are planning for a full house so book early before our fire limit is reached !

CFC Annual General Meeting – The Sustaining Members of the Calgary Flying Club will meet at 12 Noon on Saturday Dec 1st at The Hangar Museum. Notice of the Meeting and Agenda have been sent to Sustaining Members. Interested in becoming a Sustaining Member – – – speak to any Director or leave your namewith Dispatchandsomeonewill contact you.

Private Pilot Ground School – January 7,2019 is the start of the next PPL Ground School.  Those attending CFC ground schools and committing to training will have some preferences on the current waitlists to start in flight training. Get on the Class list, register and start a journey into the clouds. It is a Christmas present to yourself !!

Upset Recovery Training – In the New Year, CFC Private and Commercial Pilots will have the opportunity to take their game up. Aspilots, we never know when you might end up in an unusual attitude. Knowing how to recover is important knowledge and a skill to be practiced. This training will involve a 4-5 hour ground school and 2-4 short lessons in the aircraft with a qualified instructor. Watch for the ground school date to be announced and book one of the aerobatic instructors(Citabria)at CFC.

Commercial Ground School – CFC/Calgary Aviation College will start the next Commercial Ground School in January 9th 2019( Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings) Whether you’re are planning to be a career pilot or wish to take your private pilot skill up a notch, sign up for the Commercial ground school that will start with a senior instructor and guest instructors. Air Operators are keenly interested in our graduates and will be involved in the enhanced training that CFC provides.

Re-investing in Aircraft – Commencing in December, Cessna C-172 YVJ will be taken off-line for a new engine, new paint and updated interior as part of our long-term fleet renewal program. A new fleet colour scheme is in the works.

Cessna 182 Fractional Ownership Opportunity – Ever wanted to own your own aircraft but don’t want all the fixed costs and ownership hassles?   The CFC Directors have approved the potential acquisition of a capable C-182 to join the fleet as a Member rental aircraft. CFC will offer up to ten(10) shares in this aircraft to Members. When not being flown by Owners, this aircraft will be available for rentals and advanced training similar to the Cirrus SR-20.  By the way, two shares in the Cirrus are also be offered for sale. Contact Ken Yewell or Bill Beaton if you are interested in this affordable and hassle-free approach to aircraft ownership with CFC managing the asset.

Pub Nite January 25, 2019 18:00 – Mark your calendars for Members to get together with pilots from the Alberta Aerobatics Club at CFC.  Socialize and learn about recreational and competition aerobatics. More to come.

CFC Spring Safety Seminar and Rust Remover – Sometimes we slowdown our flying in the winter months. This seminar is a great opportunity knock some rusk off, re-fresh some knowledge areas, share experiences with other pilots and renew your CARs 2 year re-currency requirement. Saturday April 13th at 9AM is the planned date.  CFC Members will have first opportunity to register at $25 for day including refreshments and a light lunch. After February 15, 2019, available seats will be offered to non-members and adjacent flying clubs at $45.
