Club Newsletter – March 16th 2018

Member Event – The next pub night will be held tomorrow afternoon, on March 17th for St. Patrick’s Day from 2pm to 5pm. Wear your favorite green attire and share some green beers. At 2PM, we will be having Larry Biever from COPA (Canadian Owners and Pilots Association) come speak to us about what COPA is, what they do and share information about COPA for kids. If you have anything specific you would like to hear about during his presentation email Chloe at marketing@calgaryflyingclub.com. Also take the opportunity to put our recently completed island and member lounge area to use.  And yes, there will be talk of airplanes and flying. There will not be a pub night on March 30th.

Spring Rust Remover – We want to encourage all renters to get active this spring. Any renter booking after 1630 of each day in April will only be charged $145 per hour wet (plus any fuel surcharge). Make your bookings while slots are still available.(PROMO:WINTER03)

Fuel update – We are currently experiencing a shortage of AVGAS due to supply issues from the Imperial Oil refinery in Edmonton. Until supply uncertainty is resolved, CFC will be unable to provide sale of AVGAS to non-training aircrafts. The very limited fuel we have been able to bring in is costing quite a bit more to acquire and to truck to CFC’s location. Therefore, effective immediately a temporary fuel surcharge will be added to the current wet aircraft rates. We are hopeful that regular fuel supply can be re-established shortly so normal operations can resume and the surcharge can be removed.

Twin Aircraft Fractional Ownership Opportunity – CFC is investigating the acquisition of a second Seneca II (with known icing capabilities). A low time PA-34-200T has been identified with strong avionics and compatible with our existing Seneca II. The aircraft would be managed by the CFC and used in flight training when not flown by owners. A 1/6 ownership interest would be about $32,000 inclusive of a paid engine reserve commensurate with the current engines’ time.   If you have serious interest, please email manager@calgaryflyingclub.com to participate.

Member Reward Contest –  Started Monday, March 12th we will be giving out one entry for every $200 paid by debit, cheque or cash. If you place $1500 or more on account by debit, cheque or cash you will receive 10 entries. Further, each member volunteering for a CFC Event or program will receive one entry per two hour segments of volunteer. Watch for event announcements and opportunity to sign up. The winner of the draw will get a 3 night stay in Vegas with airfare for two. The prize will be awarded at the Banquet in the fall. In the future members will be able to sign a pre-authorized debit form to facilitate payments for any flight charges with an emailed receipt sent on same day as payment. (PROMO:WINTER02)

Member Program Committee – The next MPC meeting will be on March 20th at 7pm. In these meetings we will discuss any events the club puts on for example the Corn Roast, Stampede Breakfast and the Banquet. If you have ideas you want to share or want to volunteer for something but cant make it to a meeting, email Harvey Fairfield at fairdhk@telus.net.

Check on Type & Annual Check Rides  – As we had an instructor return, we will be able to accommodate check on type flights and annual check rides. Spots with him for these specific flights will be available until April 1st. If you did not do your check before this day you will be placed on a wait list for the next available instructor.

Communications –  To keep our members apprized, you will receive an email like this one every one to two weeks. In the interim if you wish to follow CFC current events, please like or follow Calgary Flying Club on Facebook and Instagram (@calgaryflyingclub).
